Apartments come with constraints — limited storage, shared walls, and fewer exits. They also offer density, proximity to services, and community if you build it deliberately.

Storage without clutter

Use vertical space: behind doors, under beds, and in uniform bins that look like normal furniture. Rotate food like a pantry, not a museum.

Egress planning

Know two routes out of the building that do not rely on the elevator. Keep a flashlight on your nightstand and shoes within reach.

Water in tight spaces

Store what you can rotate; supplement with filtration and knowing where nearby fixtures and retail water sources are.

Sound and light discipline

In extended outages, avoid advertising generators or open flames on balconies where rules and neighbors conflict.

Coordinate

Exchange contact info with a trusted neighbor. In real incidents, a quick knock beats a post on social media.

Small space forces discipline — which is often what preparedness needs most.
